Mission Statement

Vincent Flanders, publisher of Web Pages That Suck writes that all corporate mission statements can be boiled down to one phrase: "All babies must eat". We wouldn't mind making a couple of bucks from this enterprise, (or just expenses, for that matter) -- but we have something more important in mind: We want to provide something on the web that's actually worthwhile to read. We want to provide intellectually stimulating editorial on issues that really are important.

Gawd, there is some mind-numbing crap out here in the W3! "and here's some pictures of my dog" What a freaking waste of network drive space! Few people have anything to say, but everybody wants to say it anyway and they are all competing for your attention.

Since you did manage to find this site among all the fluff and the inane, we want you to feel that your visit to the Unquietmind was worth that most precious commodity -- your time. We want you to know that if you come back for a visit in a few days, you'll find something else or three that's thought provoking -- something that maybe makes you want to respond (positively or negatively)...something besides the benign fluff that, without realizing it, you've grown used to.

You may not agree with everything that's written here. You might not 'get' our humor. In fact, we kind of hope to generate at least a little controversy, if for no other reason than to make the dialogue interesting.

quote 1 This web site is a labor of love (or is it neurosis?). We have this attitude we call the Unquietmind, and we think there are others like us. We care deeply and have been annoyed to the point of insanity by some of the events that are going on in the world that seem so grotesque.

Because of this attitude, we have determined that it would be good to to turn the news, the weekly encounters at the grocery store, and whatever else we notice in our natural habitats into poignant articles. We want to publish well-written pieces that mock the stupid and point out the intelligent. We want to spit in the direction of the weak and call attention to the few heroes that still walk among us. We want to point out what is wrong, and explain -- in depth -- why it's wrong. With any luck, and if we've thought far enough, we might even find an answer or two.

At the same time -- since we all know the tastes of people who surf the web -- we will try to keep the pages visually interesting. That's why we work so hard at finding (or modifying or creating) images that you, dear reader, may find to be bizarre, funny or disturbing scattered throughout most of our pages.

quote 2 We've barely begun, and we've got a few ideas about where it's all going to go. As soon as we persuade the Sceptic to make a doughnut run, the rest of us will probably be in a position to get a big chunk of it nailed down. As long as we make him think it was his idea ... well, you know how that goes.
