A Manifesto for the Third Millennium

Quanta waits for the Chief Justice to find her seat, moves slightly closer to the microphones, and speaks:    "With my first words as President of the United States of America, I send loving thoughts of peace and joy to all members of the human family.  Our differences are not significant.  We are more alike than we know.  As persons we are unique, beautiful and precious; together we are Humanity, an entity more beautiful and precious than all the words we know can say.  Let us begin now to be together"
 
      "The theme and substance of this inaugural address can be stated simply:  things will not be as they have been."
 
 

     Judge Quanta Bjornsen enters politics speaking the core beliefs of science and humanism.  Because she seems to speak with authority, and because her words are right for her time, she is elected President of the United States.  In that office she addresses, with startling success, the problems of militarism, racism and religious fundamentalism which imperil the human future.  In the end, she is seen by most of humanity as a prophet.  Her life work and the circumstances of her martyrdom suggest a stunning new scenario for the future of life on Earth and in the Cosmos.
