Subject: So, you think my piece is unfocused and profane? Date: Wed, 28 Feb 2001 From: unquiet <unquiet@pobox.com> To: mcdw@aol.com Warren Walker: This is a very serious matter, sir! I take issue with your lifting my piece, editing it for "focus of story" (whatever that means) and "profanity" and republishing it on your own personal web site. On the basis of how much more *wholesome* you've made my piece, I know of one group who might be looking for your help. The Chinese Ministry of Public Security is currently working on a project to "purify" the Internet. They might appreciate your tendencies, even if you are an American war vet! Do I know you? Did you ask me for permission to publish a butchered version of my article on your web site? You attributed that hacked up piece to me, with one link to our web site, but what you have published is not what I wrote, in the form in which I wrote it, nor would I have allowed it to be edited that way. The attribution is incorrect. Who the hell made you my editor, you goddamn peckerneck? Furthermore, are you completely unaware of copyright law? If not, I strongly suggest you do some research before you continue to publish anything, anywhere. http://www.law.cornell.edu/topics/copyright.html Or did you think you could use your hacked up version of someone else's work to enhance your own site and nobody would be the wiser? I'd say you ought to be ashamed of yourself, but nobody with a conscience would steal from a writer in the first place, let alone reconstruct what was stolen, so 'shame' probably isn't in your limited vocabulary. In light of what you have done, it seems ironic that you should write about "moral values" on your site. "Olongapo Girl" was written by me on the basis of my experiences in the real world. It is not subject to your reinterpretation or clean-up efforts. I would be less angry if you -- a complete stranger -- came to my door and asked to screw my girl, take my car and redecorate my home to your tastes. At least that would involve asking, you son-of-a-bitch! I demand that you remove my piece from your page -- http://members.aol.com/mcdw/picweek.htm -- immediately. If you choose to link to the original at http://unquietmind.com/olongapo.html, that's fine. (That's how honest web publishers do such things.) If you think it is too obscene for your sensitive readers, don't link to it. Meanwhile, you might want to enjoy our newest article. It's called, "Warren Walker: Editor Uninvited". http://unquietmind.com/warren.html
